Osher Marin Jewish Community Center

Happy Hanukkah

December 24-January 1

This year’s Hanukkah Celebration begins at sundown Saturday and ends at sundown New Year’s Day.  Hanukkah is the celebration of victory for the Maccabees and the miracle of the light burning in the Holy Temple. When the Greek oppressors were conquered, the Maccabees took control of the Holy Temple once again.  After cleaning and repairing the damages, it was necessary to get oil to fuel the ‘eternal light’ menorah. This journey took 8 days to return with the clean oil. The elders had believed that the oil they did have would only last for a day.  However, it actually lasted for all 8 days and nights of the journey.  Visit the Osher Marin JCC website to learn more about all their services and activities.
