See This Year’s Decorations

Getting into the holiday spirit is one of the things Marinwood residents really know how to do.  Each year, several homes become the center of attention as they are magnificently decorated to show the glory and wonder of the holiday season for both young and old.  This year is no different; three Marinwood Holiday Homes are featured.

The Mickey House

The Mickey House

The McCarthy family favorite! The Mickey House is located at the corner of Blackstone Drive and Las Gallinas Avenue and it can easily be mistaken for any old lighted Christmas house. But, just get out of the car, like my family will be doing, and walk slowly up the driveway. So many kids, and the young at heart, just have to see this house each year. Every night from 6-10pm, the garage door opens to reveal 2 galleries of what can simply be described as the most complete collection of Walt Disney toys and decorations ever made.

Friday, December 19, is a very special event.  You are invited to join Team Mize and the Case Family for beer, wine and snacks at the Lights For Kelly event being held at The Mickey HouseVisit the Facebook page for the most up to date information.

The Bear House

The second stop is another of my favorites; The Bear House. For more than 30 years, this house and its Christmas lights have been a Marinwood tradition for its residents.  You always need to make plans to visit The Bear House each year throughout the holiday season. The fun never seems to stop and there’s always so much happening.

This Marinwood Holiday Home is a fantasy land in every way.  Teddy bears are the emphasis, along with how they are intertwined with the model trains also set up.  The teddy bears are positioned in order to play a role in each lighted display scene. Model railway layouts are the central feature in each of these scenes.  The large-scale trains wind their way through the neighborhoods carrying Christmas trees, decorations, lights and, of course, bears!

Linda’s Snow Village

Lastly, we come to Linda’s Snow Village.  It’s a unique and original holiday display.  In contrast to the many lighted Christmas houses, this Marinwood Holiday Home on Miller Creek Road near Quietwood Drive is a white wooden kiosk that takes up the entire driveway. It is hard to miss given its size and the colorful Christmas lights. Once you are inside, you are treated to thousands of small cars, buildings, figures, animals and a model HO-scale train; all lighted for your viewing pleasure. It’s always fun to treat Linda’s Snow Village as a “Where’s Wally” puzzle. Each window on the kiosk displays a tiny note which challenges you to find a specific item that has been hidden someplace in the decorated kiosk.

Because of the decorative detail and its “Where’s Walley’ type challenges, Linda’s Snow Village is one of the most fascinating and mesmerising of the Marinwood Holiday Homes.
