Mill Valley’s in the Spotlight for May

All eyes are on Mill Valley this month with 2 major events highlighting the May social calendar; The Storybook Ball and The Memorial Day Parade.

The Storybook Ball is the dance for parents and their children between the ages of 4 and 9 held at the Mill Valley Community Center on Sunday, May 15 from 4:00pm to Storybook Ball9:00pm. You won’t want to be late for this very important date! The first annual event is based on Lewis Carroll’s classic childrens tale, Alice in Wonderland. The event features dancing and entertainment, delicious food, party favors and much more. Children and teen’s programs located at the Mill Valley Public Library will all benefit from the night’s proceeds. You are quite welcome to purchase your tickets online.

The Memorial Day ParadeThe Memorial Day Parade scheduled for May 30 is not to be missed. It is perhaps Mill Valley’s biggest community day. This year’s theme is MISSION POSSIBLE, what would CHARLES do. In a show of support for his legacy, the parade’s organizers are asking us all to make Charles’ vision a reality by walking; or riding our bike, to school or to the town center, cleaning up our hiking trails, carpooling and using public transportation, supporting organic farmer and the local suppliers, bringing reusable bags with us when we shop, using renewable energy, generating less trash, bringing our own non-plastic water bottles to our meetings, bringing a favorite mug to the coffee shop, getting involved and showing up to champion good, hi-quality policies at our local town and city council meetings; as well as, attending the appropriate hearings conducted by the Board of Supervisors, AND being considerate of others and their contribution to the planet’s delicate balance.

I strongly suggest starting your day early in the morning with the annual pancake breakfast organized by the Mill Valley Volunteer Firefighters at the front of City Hall on Corte Madera Avenue from 7:00am to 11:00am. After you and your family’s bellies are good and full you can then enjoy Mill Valley’s fantastic, old fashioned parade. The day’s still not over when the parade ends. You should then head over to the Community Center’s 10th Anniversary Celebration anytime from Noon to 5:00pm. Many FREE activities; including face painting, animal & puppet shows, live music, jumpees, magic, field activities, will be available.
