The Dixie School District

The Dixie School District in San Rafael is an award winning school district.

There are 3 elementary in the Dixie School District:

  • Dixie Elementary
  • Mary E. Silveira
  • Vallecito Elementary School

All 3 Dixie elementary schools feed into the award winning Miller Creek Middle School.

The mission of the Dixie School District is to: “provide a Kindergarten through eighth grade system of education which will graduate students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to live rewarding and productive lives in a rapidly changing world.”

The district serves the communities in Northern San Rafael of Marinwood, Terra Linda and Lucas Valley. It was originally founded in 1864, making it one of the oldest districts in all of Marin County.    After students graduate from Miller Creek Middle school they are within the San Rafael High School District.  Most students attend Terra Linda High School, located in Terra Linda.

The Dixie School District in San Rafael is a highly sought after school district.  The Dixie School district’s goal is to challenge its students to achieve the highest standards possible.  The goal of the Dixie School District is to provide the leadership, guidance and education to produce students who become productive and contributing citizens of their community, their country and the world.

Dixie Elementary School

Dixie Elementary is located in the Upper Lucas Valley area of San Rafael on Idylberry Road. Dixie Elementary School was selected as a California Distinguished School in 2002 and National Blue Ribbon School in 2004.  Modernization was recently funded through a local bond measure and completed at the end of 2003.  In 2010 the enrollment at Dixie Elementary school was 408 students.  In 2010 the API school score was: 942

Mary E. Silveira Elementary School

Mary E. Silveira Elementary School was selected as a California Distinguished School in 2000.  It is located in San Rafael’s Marinwood area, on Blackstone Drive.  The school was first built in in 1953 and named after Mary E. Silveria, Trustee for The Dixie District from 1938 to 1956.  The school closed due to declining enrollment in 1983, but was reopened again in 1991.  In 2010 the enrollment at Dixie Elementary school was 395.  The 2010 API school score was 889.

Vallecito Elementary School

Vallecito Elementary School was selected as a California Distinguished School in 2006.  The school is located in the Terra Linda area of San Rafael. Modernization was recently funded through a local bond measure and completed in 2002.  In 2010 enrollment was 386 students.  The 2010 API score was 907.

Miller Creek Middle School

Miller Creek Middle School

Miller Creek Middle School wasselected as a California Distinguished School in 1996, 2001 and 2005.  Miller Creek Middle school is situated in the Lucas Valley area of San Rafael on Las Gallenas. It was originally constructed in 1964.  Modernization was recently funded through a local bond measure and was completed in 2001.
In 2010 enrollment was 594 students.  The 2010 API score was 893.
