Weekend Local Things To Do; September 9-11

Despite the solemnity surrounding the 911 Remembrances being held in Marinwood and the rest of the country this weekend, there’s still quite a few local things to do this weekend. Before you devote Sunday to honoring all the people affected by the 911 World Trade Center disaster, have a look at this sampling of the many local things to do.

Friday 10am-5pm; Bay Area Pet Fair

Bay Area Pet Fair

Bay Area Pet Fair

The Bay Area Pet Fair is the most exciting FAMILY pet event of the year and it returns to the Marin Civic Center this Saturday and Sunday.  200 local vendors will feature the latest in pet supplies over the two days.  Other treats include:
Tillman, the world-famous skateboarding bulldog,
My Mutt pet show, which is open to everyone,
– agility training for kids and their dogs,
– Frisbee dogs,
– dog sports, and
– pet wellness presentations.

It should be the largest pet adoption fair in Marin County history and you can find further details at the Bay Area Pet Fair Facebook page.

Saturday 9am-2pm; Marinwood Community Farmers Market

As always, you can’t forget the Saturday morning festivities at the Marinwood Community Farmers Market. Meet with friends as you stock up on your fruits, vegetables, breads and more for the coming week. You may even find a new delicacy that sparks your interest. Go here for more details.

Saturday, 1pm-2pm; Marinwood Community Veggie Exchange

During the last hour of the Marinwood Community Farmers Market, the Marin Open Garden Project invites all backyard gardeners to bring their excess fruits and vegetables from their own gardens to exchange with others.

Sunday; 911 Day of Remembrance

Day of Remembrance

Day of Remembrance

Today is certainly not the day to be looking for fun things to do.  All Americans will be quite solemn on this day and the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, located at 1100 Las Gallinas Ave. in Terra Linda, will be holding A Day of Remembrance and Reflection with several commemorations.
– A Beyond 9/11 community prayer and reflection service will be held in the sanctuary at 10 am.
– A Fountain of Hope Labyrinth will be open to the public from 7 am to 9 pm.
– There will be an indoor peace walk with handbells commencing at 6 pm.  Prior to the walk, residents may submit names of loved ones who have served or are serving in the armed forces.  Their names will be projected and prayers offered.
– There will be a candlelight remembrance walk, at 7pm, with music.

Maybe we’ll bump into each other as we remember the victims of 911, or share our stories for the week over one of these Marinwood local things to do.
